Within walking distance of our holiday cottages, Strumble Lodge, Melin Llanrhian and Glowty'r Felin, in the nearby hamlet of Llanrhian is the pretty fishing village of Porthgain. Set around a traditional village green with picnic tables and goal posts Porthgain boasts two renowned and highly acclaimed restaurants, The Shed Bistro and The Sloop Inn, both serving sensational catch-of –the-day seafood straight from the boat.

The Sloop Inn

Set against the backdrop of the dramatic Pembrokeshire cliffs and with its pretty sunny patio looking out towards the harbour, the Sloop Inn, dating back to the 18th Century, was originally a very small fisherman’s pub, and possibly even a smuggler’s haunt. Today, although much larger, the iconic Sloop Inn is still full of character and history, with a wealth of local interest on every wall and ceiling and is extremely popular with locals and visitors. Families welcome and open for food everyday with the exception of Christmas Day. The Sloop Inn has a Bar Menu available lunch and evenings 7 days a week and a monthly special menu taking advantage of fresh and local ingredients throughout the seasons.

The Shed Fish and Chip Bistro

The Shed, formerly the machine shop for the engines that operated the brickworks in Porthgain, is a relaxed and informal fish and chip bistro serving award winning fish and chips – “fish so fresh you need to pin it to your plate with your fork.” Although the emphasis of the menu is fish, meat and vegetarian options are available and the restaurant runs two menus, fish and chips and a la carte.

The Shed is open from 12-3pm for lunch and 5.30-9pm in the evenings. Teas, coffee and homemade cakes are served from 10am - 5pm. It is advisable to phone first and check opening times especially out of season.
