LOCATION.png

Birthplace of St David and sitting on the very tip of southwest Wales, St Davids is the smallest city in Britain. Boasting a fascinating history this tiny historic city, really no more than a large village, is considered by some as perhaps the very beating heart of Pembrokeshire, Britain’s only coastal national park. Rated by National Geographic magazine experts as the second best coastline in the world with 186 miles of magnificent unspoilt coastline with stunning views, rolling countryside and taking in over 50 beaches.

Only a couple of minutes’ walk from the “city” centre, tucked away in the sheltered Alun Valley, is the magnificent 12th century St Davids Cathedral made from the beautiful local purple stone. On the opposite bank of the River Alun, which meets the sea a mile away at the picturesque harbour of Porthclais, are the medieval ruins of Bishops Palace.

St Davids is an artist’s paradise with its own unique charm. With a host of galleries showcasing paintings, ceramics, glass, tapestry and bronzes, much of it from local artists, there is something for everyone. A must to visit in St Davids is the innovative National Park Visitor Centre, Oriel y Parc, where there is plenty to see and do, with its gallery, gift shop and café with seating inside and out.
For those just wanting a mooch St Davids has it all, a local farmers market, tea-shops, pubs and restaurants and an interesting collection of shops.

The coastline around the St Davids has some of the most breath-taking coastal scenery and within a short distance from the centre you can find;
Whitesands Bay, popular with families and water sport enthusiasts eager to experience the Atlantic swells.
Caerfai Beach where the unique purple stone used in the construction of the cathedral can be found and
St Justians, home to the St Davids Lifeboat station and from where regular thrilling boat trips operate to see the marine and birdlife around the offshore Ramsey Island, with its spectacular sea cliffs teeming with seabirds and the waters frequented by seals, dolphins, porpoise and if you’re lucky perhaps a passing whale.

And at the end of the day St Davids is the perfect place to enjoy some of the best sunsets in Wales.
