Places to visit IN PEMBROKESHIRE

Something For Everyone

Discover history spanning hundreds of years, awe-inspiring scenery and beautiful gardens when you book your cottage holiday in South West Wales.

Abereiddy & Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon earned its name thanks to the pounded grey slate that gives the deep blue colour to the water in this former quarry at the tiny hamlet of Abereiddy. The rocky beauty spot is the place to go if you’re a fan of water-based adventure sports such as coasteering and kayaking, which you can enjoy as part of an organised group. Be careful though, because the water is deep and cold. Alternatively, you can head to the clifftop for a scenic walk.

Picton Castle and Gardens

Explore Picton Castle and its 40 acres of woodland gardens and grounds. Guided tours of the castle, near Haverfordwest, span nearly 800 years and feature fascinating family stories, while the gardens have been carefully planned to provide colour and interest throughout the year. You can enjoy woodland and lakeside walks, and there’s also an adventure playground, maze and jungle walkway.

Skomer Island

Located less than a mile off the Pembrokeshire coast, Skomer is renowned for its wildlife, from puffins and Manx shearwaters to dolphins and Atlantic grey seals. During spring you can view the splendid display of bluebells, so vast the whole island appears blue. When you visit, please follow the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales’s biosecurity rules, which protect the vulnerable wildlife.

St. Davids Cathedral

Built in 1181 on what is believed to be the location of St David’s 6th-century monastic settlement, St Davids Cathedral has been a site of pilgrimage and worship for more than 800 years. Situated in the city of St Davids, you can admire the oak and painted ceilings, sloping floors and restored cloisters, all of which contribute to the building’s distinctive character. The refectory, meanwhile, provides rest, refreshments and time to reflect.

Solva Woollen Mill

Pembrokeshire’s oldest working woollen mill is on the banks of the River Solva, one mile inland from the picturesque village of Solva. You can visit the mill to see how it produces woven fabric on its historic looms as it has done for more than a century. As well as its own ranges, Solva Woollen Mill weaves to commission. While you’re there, why not enjoy refreshments in the tearoom or browse the shop.

Carew Castle

At Carew Castle and Tidal Mill you’ll discover a rich history spanning more than 2,000 years, featuring knights, kingmakers, Elizabethan intrigue and Civil War devastation. Overlooking a 23-acre millpond, the architecturally-diverse castle includes a Norman fortress and an Elizabethan mansion, and is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The castle, near Tenby, also has a visitor centre, shops and tearoom.

Bosherston Lily Ponds

The Bosherston Lakes, along with the old Stackpole Court site and Lodge Park Woods form the most complete and famous part of the Stackpole Estate’s designed landscape. Accessible all year round, there’s always something new to see at the National Trust-owned estate, within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Bosherston Lakes, or Lily Ponds, as they’re also known, have long been renowned for their spectacular display of waterlilies and their resident otters. The ponds are a great place to visit if you want to have a wander and do some wildlife watching.

St Davids Holiday Cottages

Famed for being Britain’s smallest city, St Davids is a laid-back gem. Here you’ll find an elegant 12th-century cathedral, the medieval ruins of the Bishop’s Palace, and a host of galleries and independent shops.

Solva Holiday Cottages

Featuring colourful cottages and a picture-postcard harbour, Solva is an idyllic destination for your Pembrokeshire escape. The bustling community is an ideal base for scenic walks and boat trips.

Porthgain Holiday Cottages

Situated between St Davids and Fishguard, the pretty fishing village of Porthgain has been used as a film location. The coastal hamlet is the perfect location for exploring the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

TESTIMONIALS

A stunning example of self-catering accommodation, Melin Llanrhian was always a striking and impressive house… The owners have taken the property on to another level with the stunning sunroom and kitchen extension overlooking the grounds, in which there has also been much work done.

PHIL FLETCHER, VISIT WALES

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a great location. Loved surfing at Whitesands Bay and there’s a wonderful walk from Caerfai to Whitesands with excellent views. Also, the fish and chips at The Shed in Porthgain is not to be missed. St Davids is full of cafes and nice shops, the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace are well worth a visit – very peaceful. Thank you very much.
