May Cottage
MAY COTTAGE
Holiday Cottage, St Davids, Pembrokeshire
Escape to the tranquil Welsh countryside with a stay at May Cottage, an idyllic three-bedroom holiday home two miles from St Davids.
Sleeping six, the characterful barn conversion offers a relaxing and rejuvenating break for you and your family or friends on Hendre Farm, a wildlife haven in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
May Cottage is the only holiday let on the farm, where the cottage and barns are all grade II listed. Plus, you’ll have access to the luxurious on-site swim spa, perfect for plunging into after a long coastal walk. There’s also a log burner, fishing lake and a games room.
The cottage is ideal if you’re looking for a self-catering holiday home suitable for someone with mobility issues. It’s all on one level, with no steps (except one down onto the outside balcony), so your whole party can enjoy the holiday to the full.
Thanks to its rural location, May Cottage is perfect for stargazing. When darkness falls, get cosy outside with a blanket and steaming mug of hot chocolate, while exploring the night sky.
The owners, Jim and Maureen Dale, live on the farm and are usually on hand if you have any questions.
(Please note: three days’ notice is required to use the swim spa to ensure it is nice and hot for your arrival. Also, we’re sorry but there is no electric vehicle charging at this property.)
At May Cottage, you’ll be in the heart of the countryside but within easy reach of the city of St Davids and spectacular Pembrokeshire coast.
The holiday home sits on Hendre Farm, a paradise for you and your four-legged friends thanks to the space to roam. Pull on your wellies and explore the farm trails.
The land at Hendre is still used for crops and occasional animal grazing. The owners have produced many walks around the farm for those who don’t mind sharing with the cows!
Wildlife such as foxes, badgers and kestrels are plentiful. Plus, you may even see the farm’s resident barn owl or be lucky enough to spot some rare marsh harriers, which also nest on the farm. One of the small lakes has been stocked with rainbow trout, and you’re welcome to bring your own fishing tackle and try to catch your supper.
Locally, there are fantastic beaches at Newgale and Whitesands, where tuition is available for watersports such as surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Other activities nearby include coasteering, golf, horse-riding, cycling and, of course, coastal walks.
Pembrokeshire is also a must-visit destination if you have an interest in astronomy or astrophotography. The county has eight Dark Sky Discovery Sites, including Newgale beach and Garn Fawr National Trust car park. Hendre itself also has very dark skies!
